The euphoria created after Indian air force attacked Pakistan based militant camps deep inside the country’s territory died instantly after Pakistan on Wednesday responded back by targeting Poonch and Rajouri areas by resorting to an air strike that too during the day time.
Given the relations and the surcharged atmosphere that was created by war mongering news outlets, the Pakistani response was evident and it happened. Though no one can justify the terror attack that took place in Pulwama or have taken place in Jammu and Kashmir over the years, the way it was dealt with raised many questions.
India did its part of action immediately after the Uri terror attack, but the way the strike was carried out was not wildly provocative and shockingly aggressive. The plan was carried out in a much dignified way and days later it was provided as news break for the war happy news studious.
However, during the second strike no provision was provided for the potential of repercussions and its extension to the hitherto unthinkable possibility of war itself between the two South Asian neighbours.
With good sense having failed to prevail among the leadership in both the regions, the entire neighborhood stands on the threshold of the unknown. Both the nations in an surcharged atmosphere of hate and dislike for each other can go to an extent from which both can face a point of no return.
Both the countries need to understand that war is no option. It will prove to be an organized plunder of resources-both human and others. The leadership in the twin countries needs to understand that they are not mere politicians but leaders of the nation and its people.
There decision can put the entire nation and its people at risk and this is what both cannot afford. If any of the country moves an extra mile than other reserves the unqualified right to defend itself against an unprovoked attack.
The need of the hour is that India and Pakistani state should urgently activate all diplomatic channels to put a meaningful end to the madness called war. The international community simply cannot stand by and watch as India and Pakistan sends this region hurtling towards conflict and worse.
Time and again, global and regional powers have recognised the potential of the unsettled issues between the two nations. The world powers should also intervene immediately and provide a relief to the common masses by ensuring that a ceasefire is announced and no escalation of whatsoever magnitude takes place.
The world bodies should also ensure that a monitored and time bound dialogue process is initiated at an earliest among the two nations so that all such non-sense is put to rest and war as an option between the two nations is closed for ever.
