Gunfight starts in Shopian village, one militant killed
Shopian: One unidentified militant was killed in an ongoing encounter between militants and government forces in Memander area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district.
Reports said that one unidentified militant was killed in an encounter as forces and the gunmen engaged in a fight after a search operation was started in the area during the night.
Earlier a joint team of army, CRPF and SOG launched a cordon and search operation in Memandar on specific inputs about the presence of militants in the area.
As forces intensified searches towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon government forces triggering an encounter, an official said.
Sources said two to three militants are believed to be trapped and intermittent firing is going on.
