Srinagar: The administration on Sunday imposed restrictions in the city areas in view of shutdown call by the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL).

In view of strike call given by separatists on 24 Feb 2019, today there are credible inputs that miscreants may restore to various activities which will be prejudicial to the public tranquility, peace and order, a statement issued here said.

Therefore, to maintain peace, order and public tranquility and to ensure safety of life and property, imposition of restrictions on 24/02/2019, in terms of section 144 CrPC has become imperative, the statement said.

It added that restrictions on the movement of people will be put in place in areas falling under Police Stations of Rainawari, Nowhatta, Khanyar, M R Gunj and Safa Kadal.

Meanwhile, a complete shutdown is being observed across Kashmir Valley on the call of JRL.

The separatist leadership had issued the call in response to the arrest of various leaders and activists by authorities on Saturday.

The leadership had also asked people to observe shutdown as a mark of protest against any tinkering with Article 35A. The article has been challenged in the Supreme Court and the hearing is likely to take place on 27 or 28th February.
