Kulgam: Two unidentified militants were killed an encounter that broke out between forces and militants in Turigam village of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Sunday.

Official sources said that two unidentified militants were killed the encounter while as massive clashes are taking place in the area between protesters and government forces.

A DSP ranking officer has been killed in the ongoing gun battle while as army Major also sustained a bullet wound in his leg and was hospitalized, a police officer said, adding that the condition of Major is said to be stable.

Locals said that protesters including women clashed with forces and resorted to stone pelting on forces conducting the operation. 

“Forces responded with tear gas shelling to disperse the protesters,” they said.

They also claimed that announcements were made from mosques asking people to come out and protest. 

“Several protesters have been injured in the clashes,” they claimed.

The gunfight had broke out this afternoon in Kulgam village after forces launched search operations in the village following specific inputs about the presence of militants there.
