The assurances by the state government to provide safety to the students and other businessmen in outside states have fallen flat as the attacks continue on the Kashmiri youth in various outside states. The attacks have in fact increased in intensity as the various states where these attacks have taken place have failed to take any action or provide some safeguards to the hapless Kashmiris.

The Kashmiri students as well as businessmen are repeatedly being attacked and physically assaulted by mobs in outside states. Besides, students are also suspended or rusticated from the college and universities.

The episodes have questioned and contradicted the J&K government assurances of ensuring safety of Kashmiri students and businessmen who are working or studying in various outside states.

Notably, the government spokesman just days back had stated that the advisors to the Governor, Vijay Kumar and Khurshid Ahmed Ganai, reviewed the issues of security and safety of the students from J&K studying outside and assured that all possible steps were taken to ensure their safety and security in view of certain reported incidents.

But given the ground situation, it seems that no state machinery is working for safety of students and businessmen in other states. The students are facing mental harassment and physical assaults continuously from past week forcing them to return home.

Rough estimates suggest that nearly 4000 people comprising of students and business men who had gone to various states have been forced to run for their lives and these people have now come back home leaving behind their careers and earnings.

The attackers have become so ruthless that at most of the places hapless Kashmiris are surrounded by rightwing goons who forcibly make them shout anti-Pakistan slogans and are made to chant other fanatic slogans a swell.

All this is being done under the very nose of the administration and the police as in most of these cases videos have been recorded which are going viral on social media thereby sending further shock waves and insecurity among the Kashmiri students and small time traders.

In so far many of these cases the police has failed to act as no one has been booked for using violence as a means to harass and terrorize the residents of Kashmir valley who have been staying put in various states.

Just one case of police action has come to light in West Bengal where police has acted and arrested one person for beating a Kashmiri shawl vendor in Taherpur area of the state. What is more alarming and worrisome is the fact that the ruling party sees no attacks on Kashmiris and even some senior ministers have gone on record that no such attacks are taking place.

The attacks which have increased in magnitude forced National Conference leader Omar Abdullah to question the silence of Prime Minister NarendraModi about incidents of violence against Kashmiris.

The former CM took jibe on the PM for not saying a few words of condemnation for the systematic attacks directed against Kashmiri students and others.
