Encounter breaks out in Sopore village, internet snapped, restriction imposed in town

Sopore : A gunfight has broke out between militants and the government forces in Warpora village of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on late Thursday night.

An official said that an exchange of fire is going on between militants and the forces in Usman abad Mohalla of the village.

He said that militants opened fire late night on the forces who had launched a cordon-and-search-operation in the area.

After searching for more than eight hours, the forces managed to establish a contact with the hiding militants who opened fire on forces, triggering a gunfight.

Sources said that 2-3 militants are believed to be trapped.

Earlier, army’s 22 RR, SOG of Police and CRPF has launched a cordon-and-search operation at Warpora village following specific information about the presence of militants inside a residential house.

Meanwhile, internet facility was suspended in Sopore town and its surrounding areas since Thursday evening. Authorities have also ordered imposition of restrictions in Sopore.

“In view of the apprehension of law and order problem, restrictions under sec 144 CRPC are hereby imposed on the gathering of more than 4 persons in entire Sub-division Sopore with effect from evening 21-02- 2019 till further orders,” reads an order issued by the Additional District Magistrate Sopore.
