Srinagar: The Supreme Court (SC) is unlikely to hear the Article 35A case till next week.
The case is not listed for tomorrow, a lawyer said. “The case list for tomorrow has been issued and the petition challenging the Article 35A is not listed for hearing,” he said.
Earlier, the case was listed between Feb 12-14 at Supreme Court (SC), however, the state government yesterday sought the adjournment of the hearing into the case.
Standing Counsel for the state of Jammu and Kashmir, Advocate on record M ShoebAlam had submitted the application for adjournment before Registrar General of Supreme of India. However, the SC has reportedly asked the Advocate not to seek adjournment of the case.
Notably, as many as five petitions stand filed in the Supreme Court against Article 35A, with the lead case filed in 2014 by a little known Delhi-based NGO ‘We The Citizens’.
Meanwhile, the J&K High Court Bar Association Srinagar had asked all the members of its team constituted for opposing the petitions challenging Articles 35A and 370 to remain present at the Supreme Court when the cases come up.
In a statement, it said its two members are already camping in Delhi and are in constant touch with the Advocate-on-Record.
“Other members including Mian Abdul Qayoom, President; AijazBedar, Vice President; Z. A. Shah, Senior Advocate; Z. A. Qureshi, Senior Advocate; R. A. Jan, Senior Advocate; N. A. Ronga, Advocate; M. S. Reshi, Advocate; Rafiq Ahmad Joo, Advocate; Abdul Aziz Teeli, Advocate; MianMuzaffar, Advocate and SuratShakeel, Advocate, are leaving for Delhi to be present during the hearing,” said the statement.
