Srinagar: In order to tackle the menace of abandoned babies at LallaDed and other hospitals, the Jammu Kashmir Integrated Child Protection Scheme (JKICPS) under the guidance of Juvenile Justice Board and Chairmanship of Selection Cum Over Sight Committee Chief, Justice (Retd) HasnainMasoodi have come up with the first of its kind 24×7 Help Desk at LalDed Hospital, Srinagar.

While talking to ‘Kashmir Vision’, Medical Superintendent, LallaDed Hospital, DrShabirSiddiquie said that the Help Desk will help in tackling the situation of taking care of abandoned babies in the hospital and other places in Srinagar.

“We usually face the situation when people abandon their infants and it becomes difficult for us to take care of them, now that the Help Desk has come up, it will help in tackling with the situation,” he said.

The Help Desk, as per the Government handout, would be the lifeline for Abandoned/unwanted babies who usually end up in insecure, unprotected and Shelter less places.

“This is an opportunity to reclaim these unfortunate and under privileged babies and rehabilitate them into our society as soon as possible,” it said.

DrSiddique said that the Desk will also facilitate the process of adoption of such infants, if anyone wants. “While taking care of such infants, the desk, under the patronage of Justice Masoodi, will also take care of the process of adoption in need arises,” he said.

JKICPS has appealed the civil society, professionals, Health Department, Education Department, Police, and all other strata of society to come forward and help create a bridge between these abandoned babies and genuine guardians for rehabilitation of these children.

The Help Desk shall provide 24-hour facility to the persons who wish to handover the child to ICPS. “The Department shall provide health care facility, Education, Nutrition, Shelter etc to these cases,” it said.

ICPS shall also provide sponsorship to children in need. ICPS has setup a Child Protection Management System to formulate and implement effective intervention strategies and monitor their outcomes.
