Action against students also intensified, many suspended

Srinagar: The assurances by the state government to provide safety to the students and other businessmen in outside states have fallen flat as the attacks continue on the Kashmiri youth in various outside states.
The Kashmiri students as well as businessmen are repeatedly being attacked and physically assaulted by mobs in outside states. Besides, students are also suspended or rusticated from the college and universities.
The episodes have questioned and contradicted the J&K government assurances of ensuring safety of Kashmiri students and businessmen who are working or studying in various outside states.
The government spokesman on Tuesday stated that the advisors to the Governor, Vijay Kumar and Khurshid Ahmed Ganai, reviewed the issues of security and safety of the students from J&K studying outside and assured that all possible steps were taken to ensure their safety and security in view of certain reported incidents.
“But given the ground situation, it seems that no state machinery is working for safety of students and businessmen in other states. The students are facing mental harassment and physical assaults continuously from past week forcing them to return home,” a senior official in state administration said.
He said the Liaison officers appointed for various states were entrusted to avoid any attack on Kashmiri students or any action by colleges, which he said was not being done.
“The students are facing rustication and suspension from colleges and physical assault from mob so it clearly indicates that no Liaison officer is available on ground,” the official said.
He said the situation is under control in outside states post attacks on students and businessmen.
“It would have been better if these attacks would have been avoided and students would have remained safe,” he said.
In a new episode, a shawl trader from Soibugh area of Budgam district was attacked by mob in West Bengal in wake of last week’s attack on CRPF convoy in Pulwama which left 49 CRPF personnel dead.
The trader was identified as Javid Ahmad Khan of Astanporamohallah of Soibugh who was mercilessly beaten by an abusive mob in Taherpur area of Nadia district last night.
As per the video which is viral on social media, blood was oozing out from the nose of Khan as the mob abused and forced him to shout ‘VandeMataram’.
The police official confirmed the incident and said Khan was shifted to a safer location in Krishna Nagar.
Last week, similar attacks took place on Kashmir traders in Bihar when a mob vandalized the shops of Kashmiri traders and threatened them to leave the state.
Besides, seven more Kashmiri students were suspended by Roorkee-based Quantum Global University for their alleged anti-national posts on social media, a university official said.
The action was taken on Tuesday after around 450 students gathered on the campus demanding their expulsion for allegedly posting ‘anti-national’ slogans on Facebook and Instagram.
The protesting students threatened to leave the institute if the Kashmiri students were not expelled, he said.
“We had to suspend the Kashmiri students to pacify the protesting students and stop them from leaving,” an official of the University said.
Earlier, three Kashmiri students were booked with sedition charges by Bangalore Police for their alleged anti-national posts on social media.
Already reported, around 20 Kashmiri students have been suspended and rusticated by concerned universities and colleges in outside states from past week.
