Div Com reviews traffic decongestion measures

Srinagar: The capital city of Srinagar is all set to get a new Mechanized car parking which will greatly help in decongestion of traffic.

This was informed in a meeting which was convened by the  Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan to review the traffic decongestion measures across the city.

The government has already approved Rs 10 crores under AMRUT scheme to Srinagar Development Authority (SDA) for the execution of the construction work. To start immediate construction work on the new Mechanized car parking in the city, Div Com directed SDA to submit the complete report of the identified location and other necessary measures to the Divisional Commissioner immediately for the necessary course of action.

In order to minimize traffic jams across city, the Divisional Commissioner directed Commissioner SMC to start intense drive along with Police, traffic personnel to remove all road side vendors from Hari Singh High Street, Batmaloo and other places and shift them to designated Vendor Zones which were already developed for them.

Police, Traffic Police and Chief Enforcement Officer SMC were directed to keep 24X7 tight vigil on all city roads and ensure that no vendor can display their goods on roads or car parking sides. Violators will be dealt strictly as per prescribed law.

Traffic department was asked to start intense and strict document checking of every type of vehicles and immediately seize those vehicles which lack requisite vehicle documents.

For seized vehicles, SDA was directed to provide RTC yard to traffic department immediately.

The meeting was further informed that the new twin Multi-Level parking projects in old State Motor Garages and Sheikh bagh at Lal Chowk are under construction at an estimated cost of Rs 30 crores and Rs  25 crores respectively through AMRUT scheme. Under the AMRUT scheme, Rs 5 crores had been approved for parking at Bus Terminal Panthachowk which is also under construction.

The Divisional Commissioner directed SDA to expedite the construction works on prestigious parking projects so that they will be completed in a stipulated time frame.

On the occasion, Khan said that these parking projects will help to decongest traffic in the city and ease the movement of commuters besides large chunk of population will get relief from regular traffic jams.

The Divisional Commissioner reiterated that government is working round the clock for smooth and hassle free traffic movement across the city for the benefit of city habitants and tourists.

The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Srinagar K.K. Sidha, RTO Kashmir, VC SDA, SSP Traffic, Commissioner SMC, Assistant Commissioner, Police officers and other concerned officials were present in the meeting.
