Act tough against those humiliating Kashmiris outside Valley: Hakeem to Guv
Jammu: Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) President and former MLA Khansahib Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen Tuesday asked the government to explore the possibilities of providing admissions to Kashmiri students being forced to return home from outside state in the Valley colleges so that their studies don’t suffer.
Hakeem in a statement issued here urged Governor led administration and Central government to take strict measures against those elements who have been hounding and humiliating Kashmiris in Jammu and other parts of the country.
“Kashmiri students were forced to vacate their rented accommodations in several parts of the country as they were under continuous threat. The height of harassment is that they were not even provided any transport facility by transporters in Dehradun. Even female Kashmiri students are not being spared which is shameful act,” PDF chief said.
“The studies of Kashmiri students studying outside the state have been badly affected. How can they concentrate on their studies when their lives are not safe? Government must take immediate steps to compensate them,” he said.
He added the government must also explore the possibilities of providing them admissions in Kashmir colleges so that their studies don’t suffer. “We had a regional engineering college in Srinagar which was converted to NIT 15-years back. What benefit Kashmir got out of it as most of the students, studying there are outsiders,” he asked.
Hakeem said that it was unfortunate that some colleges and universities have refused to take Kashmiri students while others have forced them to leave. “It is unfortunate that Kashmiri students are being made homeless in their own country,” he said.
Urging government to take hard steps to curb those elements, who were attacking Kashmiris in Jammu and outside state, former MLA said, “How many people have been booked under PSA in Kashmir for indulging in stone pelting? In Kashmir if someone is involved in minor stone pelting, he is booked under PSA. Why are those elements not being dealt strictly, who indulge in attacks against Kashmiris outside?”
To curb these elements and restore peace, he said there is need for taking strict measures against those who are trying to vitiate the peaceful atmosphere in the state. “The amity and brotherhood of J&K must be persevered at all costs,” he demanded.
“Government employees, businessmen and other Kashmiris working in Jammu and outside state are feeling increasingly unsafe and insecure,” Hakeem rued.
He said that the nation should have been united in this hour of grief and tragedy, but unfortunately some vested elements are trying to exploit this situation for their petty gains. “Such elements must be curbed with iron hand, who are hell bent to divide people in the name of region and religion,” he added.
