Sopore residents protest against PDD

Sopore: Inhabitants of Neharpora area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Saturday staged a protest against the Power Development Department (PDD) for failing to repair their damaged transformer from the past one week.
The local residents alleged that the department has failed to repair their damaged transformer. Scores of people including women blocked the Sopore-Srinagar road at Iqbal Market for hours to highlight the power crisis in the area.
Residents said they are reeling under darkness since past week. “It is the 3rd time that our transformer has developed technical snag and the department is not paying any heed to our sufferings,” Zahoor Ahmad Shah, a local resident said.
“We are facing hardships in absence of electricity and urge the higher authorities of PDD to take necessary steps and resolve our problem at an earliest,” they said.
Executive Engineer PDD, Sopore Division, Farooq Ahmed said that efforts are on to repair the damaged transformer and to restore electricity in the area at an earliest.
