Pulwama: A militant from South Kashmir’s Pulwama district proved deadly for the forces as he has reportedly carried out a suicide attack in Lethpora area of Awantipora here, which left 44 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) men dead and many others injured.
Aadil Ahmad Dar, son of GhulamHasaan Dar of GundbaghKakapora had joined militant ranks in March last year. He along with his two cousins Tawseef Ahmad and Sameer went missing on March 19 last year.
However, Tawseef returned back after few days while Sameer is still active and is associated with militants.
Adil’s mother, HamidaBanoo said that her son left home at around 1:30 pm for a routine walk after taking lunch on Mar 19 but didn’t return till late evening following which they contacted him on his mobile phone and found the phone was switched off.
The slain militant was class 12 drop out. He was working as a mason and was leading prayers in a local mosque, said his friend Manzoor, adding that after leaving his academics, Adil was studying in a religious seminary in HanjanPulwama from where he memorized seven paras of the holy Quran.
On 11 July in 2016 agitation, he received bullet injury in his leg during clashes in Newa of Pulwama following which he was confined to bed for about five months, he said.
Few days before joining militant ranks, Adil had told his parents that he wants to buy a load carrier for himself to earn his livelihood, said one of his close relative.
Aadil belonging to middle class family is survived by two brothers, one elder to him and other younger, besides his parents.
According to the locals, on 31 May last year, forces allegedly tried to torch his house however, they didn’t succeed.
His brothers were frequently asked to visit camps, where they were subjected to torture and forces allegedly ransacked his property many times, they alleged.
Notably, Aadil’s cousin brother, Manzoor Ahmad Dar, had joined militant ranks in 2016 and was killed barely a week after in an encounter at Malwari area of Newa village.
Manzoor, who was a driver, joined militant ranks after the vehicle he was driving was seized near Bemina area of Srinagar.
Meanwhile, a massive throng was witnessed at the native village of the Jaish-e-Mohammad militant who as per the reports attacked the CRPF convoy at LethporaAwantipora. His funeral prayers in absentia were also offered.
Locals said that thousands of people marched from different villages towards Gandibagh, the native village of JeM militant Adil Ahmad Dar alias Waqas commando.
“Funeral prayer in absentia was held for Adil and more people are marching towards the village,” locals said.
Minor clashes also erupted in the area as soon as the news of Adil’sFidayeen (suicide) attack spread in the area. “Youth clashed with forces in the area and pelted stones on forces personnel,” local sources said.
