Kupwara: The snowfall prediction by the weatherman seems to have failed to authorities from deep slumber as many roads including vital links continued to remain un-cleared from the several inches of snow that started from Wednesday afternoon across the Valley.
Most of the roads are still not cleared while as the electricity in many areas is still to be restored.
Witnesses said that the roads in north Kashmir’s frontier district Kupwara are still not cleared while as the electricity was also not restored in the areas where it was snapped due to snowfall.
On second consecutive day, the commuters in Kupwara town had to face tremendous inconvenience as the authorities here have failed to clear the accumulated snow from lanes and by-lanes. Many shops were also closed due to heavy snowfall.
However, reports said that men and machinery were pressed in few areas to clear the main roads.
Meanwhile, complaints of water logging were also received from various areas of Kupwara town. “The melting of snow has caused water logging. Authorities have not placed any arrangements for dewatering here,” said Tariq Ahmad, a commuter at Iqbal Market.
The residents of Kupwara district including main town and areas of Lolab, Hyhama, Kralpora, Dahama, Shaloora, Trumnad, Budnambal, Chokibal, Kachama and others complained that the district administration has failed to clear snow from the main roads. “This has badly affected the vehicular movement,” they said.
Moreover, several villages of the district are reeling under darkness for past some days. Power Development Department (PDD) has utterly failed to restore electricity in main town Kupwara and other areas from last two days, the residents added.
