Snow avalanches hit Mahoo, Mangat, animals trapped

Srinagar: Two snow avalanches have reported to have hit far-flung areas of Ramban district in Jammu region on Thursday.
Officials said that a snow avalanche hit Mahoo village of Ramban district in which six houses came under the avalanche. However, all the civilians and their livestock were already shifted from the area following predictions of snowfall.
In another similar incident at Mangat village, a snow avalanche hit three houses in which fifteen animals including ten goats and sheep are buried under the snow.
However, no loss of human life has been reported in both these incidents.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Ramban, Dr. Basharat Hussain confirmed that no loss of human life has taken place so far and in Mangat area. However, he said that several animals are trapped under the snow.
He said that authorities have also sought help from Army for a rescue operation.
