Asks people to remember Afzal Guru, Maqbool Bhat

Srinagar: In view of the anniversaries of Muhammad Afzal Guru and Muhammad Maqbool Bhat, the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) on Thursday announced a protest program, appealing people to observe complete shutdown on February 09 and 11.
JRL comprising Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Muhammad Umer Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik in a statement issued here said, “On the anniversary of Afzal Guru on Saturday’ 9th February, a complete protest shutdown will be observed across the valley. On 10th February, prayers will be held in all main Masjid’s for Guru and Bhat.”
The trio said that to recall the sacrifice of Muhammad Maqbool Bhat, a complete shutdown will be observed on Monday, 11th February 2019, besides, a protest will be held at Lal Chowk Srinagar, demanding the return back of mortal remains of Afzal Guru and Maqbool Bhat to their mother land for a proper burial.
“A memorandum will also be sent to UN Secretary General, demanding for the return of mortal remains of Muhammad Maqbool Butt and Muhammad Afzal Guru,” JRL said.
Terming the struggle of Bhat as ‘a glorious chapter of Kashmir’s history’, JRL said that “his struggle and sacrifices will always guide us through the tough journey of our freedom struggle. Maqbool Butt strived for freedom of Kashmir and kissed gallows for the sacred cause.”
While remembering the sacrifice rendered by son of Kashmir Guru, JRL said that “Afzal kissed gallows and refused to surrender before tyranny.”
“The way authorities hanged these Kashmiris unlawfully on a lame excuse of satisfying collective conscience of the people is a glaring example of colonial mindset towards people of Jammu and Kashmir,” they added.
The trio said that Kashmiris will never disregard these sacrifices and will keep demanding for the mortal remains of their loved ones who remain incarcerated at Tihar Jail even after their hanging.
“The struggle and sacrifices rendered by great leader of Kashmiri freedom struggle Muhammad Maqbool Butt and son of Kashmir Muhammad Afzal Guru are glorious chapter of our resistance history. Authorities not only send these Kashmiris to gallows but also have kept their mortal remains under its custody till now. The struggle, passion for freedom and sacrifices of these great Kashmiris will always remain a beacon light for Kashmiri Nation,” JRL said.
