Anantnag: Inhabitants of Achabal and Dachnipora areas of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district here have expressed resentment against the government for ordering approval to three colleges in Anantnag district within the radius of four kilometres and ignoring other large areas.
Talking to ‘Kashmir Vision’, the residents alleged political and bureaucratic discrimination as according to them Mattan is just seven kms from Anantnag town and was nowhere in the list.
However, they said that college has been approved there because of the intervention of Khurshid Ahmad Ganaie, local Advisor to Governor.
Distance between Mattan and Siligam is hardly five kilometres and distance between Chattisinghpora and Mattan is just 4 kms and by sanctioning three colleges in a very little area is exposing the biased approach and bureaucratic discrimination of the administration, they said.
They said Achabal belt consists of over 50 villages while as Dachnipora belt consists of over 40 villages but on the basis of bureaucratic discrimination, the administration has given preference to small belts, thereby ignoring large belts.
“We were promised by the authorities that a college will be sanctioned in Achabal area but it was only the biased approach of Khurshid Ganaie that the college was sanctioned to his native village Mattan instead of Achabal,” said Waris Ahmed of Achabal.
Meanwhile, the local residents had observed shutdown and staged protests to demand college in the area.
Residents of Dachnipora and Achabal threatened of starting agitation in case the demand of sanctioning Degree College will not be fulfilled.
Local however sought intervention of Governor Satya Pal Malik in this regard.
