Coercive measures can’t deter people from following cherished mission: Sehrai

Srinagar: Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Chairman, Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai on Wednesday strongly condemned ‘murderous assault’ on Pulwama youth, Tawseef Ahmad Wani of Achagoza area of Pulwama who was ‘brutally beaten’ by forces in Army camp.
Sehrai in a statement issued here said that the forces have unleashed a reign of terror in South Kashmir in particular where people were threatened, tortured, killed, properties ransacked, forces raids on houses day and nights and vandalizing belongings and asked people to report in forces’ camps then thrashed them mercilessly.
Condemning night raids and arrest spree, Sehrai said, “Police and forces with their approach has created havoc in the state particularly in south Kashmir and created a sense of insecurity among innocent youths and police during nocturnal raids are arresting people on fabricated allegations.”
“Such coercive measures cannot dampen passion or deter people from following their cherished mission. New Delhi is entirely responsible for pushing Kashmir youth, to the wall, and continues to ignore the basic reality and ground situation which can be gauged from the fact that highly educated students are quitting their studies and resorting to other means of resistance to fight the worst form of oppression,” he said.
Sehrai said that during raids dozens of innocent youth were arrested from Pulwama and other south Kashmir districts and said, “People were dragged from their houses and frisked and paraded is a brazen act of state aggression.”
Furthermore, Sehrai added that the authorities should behave like humans. “Such suppressive steps would never dislodge the people of Kashmir from taking the struggle to its logical conclusion,” he said.
Meanwhile, Sehrai expressed deep grief and sorrow over the demise of Haji Muhammad Subhan Bhat, father of Kashmir News Service (KNS) Chief Editor Muhammad Aslam Bhat.
Sehrai extended his deepest condolence to the bereaved family and expressed solidarity and sympathy with Muhammad Aslam Bhat and prayed for peace of the deceased.
He also expressed heartfelt condolences and solidarity over the demise of Mother of Prominent columnist Z G Mohammad.
Terming the demise a huge loss for his family, Sehrai prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul and forbearance to the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss.
On his directions, TeH General Secretary Ameer Hamzah accompanied with Zahoor-ul- Haq Geelani and Molvi Bashir Ahmed Qureshi visited the residence of Z G Mohammad and shared grief and condolence with the bereaved family and prayed for departed soul.
