Pulwama: Over a decade has elapsed since the work on vital bridge in Awantipora was started, the authorities have utterly failed to complete the project, thus leaving the locals to face hardships.
The work on a vital bridge in Awantipora area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district is awaiting completion from last 12 years. The estimated cost of the bridge is Rs 9 crore 78 lakhs and project is being executed by JKPCC.
According to locals, the work on the bridge was started in the year 2007 but since then authorities have failed to complete it. “This vital bridge will connect dozens of villages with highway and Railway Station Panzgam,” locals said.
They said that more than 12 years have passed and authorities have completed just 50 percent of the project but it would take many more years in case the work will continue on snail’s pace.
“From last two years, authorities have been continuously working on the project but the pace is very slow, which needs to be speed up,” Shahid Ahmad, a local resident said.
“We are being compelled to cross river Jehlum via boat but during morning and evening hours, residents face tremendous hardships in absence of boat. We have been visiting the concerned offices in this regard but nothing has been done so far,” he added.
Locals urged authorities to speed up the construction work on the bridge and complete it at an earliest so that locals could have sigh of relief.
A JKPCC official when contacted said that the construction work on the bridge is going on and it will take at least six months to complete the construction work.
