Pulwama/Shopian: The low tension lines hanging on wooden logs and tree trunks in several villages of southern districts are posing threat to the local residents as the authorities in the Power Development Department (PDD) have failed to maintain the lines properly.
The residents of Rakh and Zahidbagh in Litter Tehsil of Pulwama district and Darbagh village in Zainapora Tehsil of Shopian district said that most of the low tension (LT) lines have been erected on wooden logs and tree trunks as the authorities have failed to erect electric poles in the areas.
At many places, the LT lines going through these villages pose threat to the locals as well as to passersby, they said.
Dozens of households lack LT wires due to which they are being compelled to use other wires, thus affecting the power supply in the area, they said.
Gulzar Dar, a village head of Darbagh said that “from last 10 years, we have been requesting authorities to provide us low tension lines and few link sets but all the promises done so far have proved hoax on the ground.”
The semi decomposed poles and LT lines fall with little wind or snowfall but authorities are in deep slumber, he said.
Residents urged the authorities to replace wooden poles and supply lines in the area so that the residents could have a sigh of relief.
Executive Engineer PDD division Awantipora said that he will get the details about it and will accordingly provide poles and wires to the area.
