Ahead of another predicted wet spell, admin issues warning

Srinagar: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan today informed that as per the weather warning issued by the Indian Metrological Centre Rambagh, Srinagar the western disturbance will likely affect the J&K from 5th to 7thFebruary 2019.

According to the official communiqué issued here, moderate to heavy snow/rain is expected at widespread places of Jammu, Kashmir on 5th afternoon and increase in intensity and distribution thereafter. The communication read that the main activity of the system- heavy to very heavy rain/snow is most likely during 5th and 7th February 2019 and gradual decrease thereafter.

The system is likely to cause widespread rain/snow with heavy to very heavy rain/snow mainly in South Kashmir, Pirpanjal Range (Doda, Batote, Badeewah, Ramban, Banihal and Baramulla) including Jawahar Tunnel.

Meanwhile, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir has directed the Deputy Commissioners of all these districts to advise the people living in avalanche prone areas not to venture out to avoid the loss of lives.

Further, the DCs are directed to activate their Control Rooms and ensure snow clearance equipments are placed at proper places for snow clearance in respect of their districts as per the snow clearance plan.

Besides, they are also requested to take all the precautionary measures and to keep the SDRF, Police and Para-medical staff with ambulances in readiness to avert any untoward incident.
