Srinagar: Following the decision of Abdul QayoomWani to join hands with a mainstream political party, several forums have been left orphaned in the state. He submitted his resignation on Friday to the department.
A teacher turned top trade union leader, Wani was heading several employees unions in the state and was always seen at fore front to fight for the rights of the employees working in the various government departments.
Abdul QayoomWani was heading J&K Teachers Forum (JKTF) as president, Chairman of employees joint action committee (EJAC) the largest union of employees of the government employees and was also the chairman of the teachers joint action committee (TJAC) which was formed in wake of the previous PDP led government after denial of benefits of the 7th pay commission to the teachers recruited under erstwhile SSA scheme in the state.
“I have resigned from basic membership of all these forums and asked them to elect their leader on their own. I don’t want to politicise the trade union bodies by interfering in their decisions,” QayoomWani said.
Wani also confirmed that he will join PDP in coming days and is expected to get mandate for upcoming LokSabha polls for north Kashmir parliamentary seat.
“I was getting offer from other political parties but I preferred PDP because I won’t feel any suffocation in this party,” Wani said.
He said the decision to join politics was taken recently without giving any second thought to it. “I believe I will get a chance to speak for my people in the system,” he said.
Wani, 59, was working as a headmaster and was presently deputed as Assistant Coordinator of SamagraShiksha- a centrally sponsored scheme in the state.
Wani’s decision to join politics is seen as another success story for him as observers believe he will get the support from all the associations he was heading while rendering his services in the government department.
