Grenade blast leaves 5 civilians, 2 CRPF men injured in Anantnag

Srinagar: Five civilians and two paramilitary CRPF men were injured after suspected militants lobbed a grenade on CRPF party outside police post Sheerbagh in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Thursday afternoon.
Reports said that suspected militants hurled a grenade on the CRPF party of 96 Battalion in Sheerbagh resulting in injuries to two CRPF men and five pedestrians including three women.
“Militants hurled a grenade on security forces at SherbaghChowk in Anantnag district which resulted in injuries to five civilians including 3 women, and two CRPF jawans,” a police spokesman said in a statement.
The injured civilians have been identified as Rehana Begum, Sobiya Jan, Naza Begum, all three residents of Anchidora, Irfan Dar of LalChowkAnantnag and Mohammad Hussain of Sofipora. All the injured civilians and two CRPF men have been shifted to hospital for treatment.
Police has registered a case in this regard and officers continue to work to establish the full circumstances of the incident, the spokesman said.
Meanwhile, Al BadrMujahideen has claimed responsibility of the attack.
A spokesperson of the outfit AatifHijazi in a statement issued to a local news agency GNS claimed the responsibility for “today’s attack on MLA’s CRPF security by lobbing under barrel launcher (UBL) grenade” at Sheerbag in south Kashmir’s Anantnag.
He said the attack left three personnel critically injured.
“More such attacks will be carried out in coming days,” he said.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson said the outfit chief HamzahBurhan has appealed people to remain away from “political puppets as well as security persons because they are our main target”.
