Shopian: The potholed roads especially Chitragam-Drawini in South Kashmir’s Shopian district has left the residents of several villagers fuming as the Roads and Building (R&B) department has utterly failed to repair the road stretch.
Inhabitants of Chitragam, Bandpawa, Thokerpora, GundDarvesh, Drawini and its adjacent areas are up in arms against R&B department for failing to repair Chitragam-Drawini road stretch in Chitragam Tehsil of Shopian district.
According to locals, the road has never been macadamised and is in shambles since long but the authorities concerned never bother to end the sufferings of people especially commuters by repairing the stretch so far.
The road is proving troublesome due to potholes, a local said, adding that the situation becomes more worsening whenever it rains, making it difficult to commuters and pedestrians through the road.
“Due to bad condition of the road, no vehicular service is currently plying through the road due to which residents of the area are facing many problems,” villagers said.
“Successive governments have failed to repair this road despite repeated promises,” they said, adding that before every election, politicians promised roads and other things but failed to serve on the ground.
Locals urged the concerned authorities to look into the matter and repair the road stretch immediately so that locals could heave a sigh of relief.
A senior official in R&B department said that the work on the road stretch was already started but was stopped due to recent snowfall.
“Work on this road stretch will be started again soon and the road will be macadamised this year,” he added.
