Cold wave grips valley amid snowfall prediction

Srinagar: Intense cold wave gripped Jammu and Kashmir Tuesday while the weatherman has forecast another spell of snowfall from Wednesday afternoon.

The temperature in Kashmir’s capital city Srinagar plummeted to minus 5.4 degrees Celsius, while tourist resort Pahalgam and ski resrt Gulmarg recorded minus 13.7 and minus 12.2 degrees respectively.

Weatherman on Monday said that moderate snowfall will likely occur in plains and higher reaches of the valley from Wednesday evening.

Drass in Ladakh recorded a minus of 30.4 as the minimum temperature while Leh town was at minus 17.4 and Kargil minus 22.5.

The 40-day long period of harsh winter ‘Chillai-e-Kalan’ that started on December 21 will end on Thursday.
