Thousands participate in slain Saqib’s funeral

Pulwama: Thousands of people on Saturday participated in the last rites of one of the slain militant, SaqibShafi Dar who was killed along with his associate in an encounter in Khanmoh area of Pampore in Srinagar outskirts.
SaqibShafi Dar, son of Mohammad Shafi Dar of Arihal village of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district was killed along with his foreign associate in an encounter at Khonmouh on the eve of 70th Republic day.
Sources said that Saqib’s dead body was directly taken to a local ground where thousands of people from different villages were waiting for the funeral.
A funeral prayer was held in the ground following which his body was taken to his home in a procession, they said, adding that the body of slain militant was not buried till the report was last filed.
“His dead body was charred and it was very difficult to recognize him,” said a relative of Saqib.
Saqib, a class 11th class student at Government Higher Secondary School Arihal had left home in July 2018 and later his photo brandishing a weapon went viral on social media.
As per his friends, Saqib received pellet injuries on his face during clashes post encounter at BadigamShopian in May 2018 that left four militants including SadamPadder and Dr Rafi and six civilians dead.
Belonging to a middle class family, Saqib’s father is a carpenter while his mother is a housewife and his younger siblings are students of a local school.
Pertinently, one of his friends identified as Shahid locally known as Afridi was killed during clashes after an encounter in Drabgam last year in which two Hizb militants including top commander Sameer Bhat alias Tiger was killed.
