After much delay Priyanka Gandhi decided to join active politics creating ripples among the BJP circles as the state where the Gandhi scion will be making a debut matters for the right wing party.

Priyanka, whose formal entry into politics has been a matter of speculation for several years, was given the charge of eastern Uttar Pradesh, a state which always plays a key role in the formation of the central government as 80 out of 543 LokSabha seats are at stake here. She will be working in the capacity of General Secretary in-charge of Uttar Pradesh East.

Though any person, be it, Priyanka Gandhi or anyone, cannot bring about a major change in one of the oldest parties in the country in a limited time span, Priyanka’s background and her acceptance among the masses can prove of some help to the Congress which is still battling it hard in Uttar Pradesh. She needs to be given two-three years time and after that, the people of the country can decide if she will be capable of taking responsibilities.

The 47-year-old daughter of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and sister of Congress President Rahul Gandhi will take charge of her responsibility as AICC General Secretary from February first week.

Rahul, who made the appointment, said that Priyanka has been given a mission of creating a space for the Congress and push the party’s true ideology.

Priyanka has off and on campaigned for her mother and brother in Rae Bareli and AmethiLokSabha constituencies of Uttar Pradesh but her formal entry into politics has been a matter of speculation for long.

The decision has been taken days after Samajwadi Party (SP) and BahujanSamaj Party (BSP) decided to contest the upcoming general elections jointly and kept the Congress out of the alliance. The Congress subsequently announced that it will contest all the 80 seats on its own.

Priyanka’s appointment is surely going to help Rahul Gandhi to make a bigger impact. Rahul who was once derided as Pappu by the mega propaganda machinery of the governing BJP, has come into his own as the leader of the Congress.

Rahul’s electoral victories in three politically important states has ensured that he has been growing from strength to strength.

Like his mother Sonia Gandhi and unlike his more effervescent sister Priyanka Gandhi, the Gandhi scion is visibly shy by nature and not very comfortable under the scorching glare of the media spotlight.

However, his interaction with public and his speeches after the poll victory has given him new and emerging confidence to take on the mighty BJP.

But with Priyanka on his side Rahul is surely going to feel more confident and a much more pulsating leader who can make a difference in the poll results in 2019 too.
