Massive snow avalanche hits Jawahar tunnel, traffic suspended
Srinagar: A massive snow avalanche has hit the strategic Jawahar tunnel on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway on Tuesday morning, reports said.
They said that the snow avalanche hit the area earlt Tuesday after it was snowing in the area for several hours on Monday and even during the night on Tuesday.
Sources said that a rescue operation has been initialed besides, traffic has also been suspended on Srinagar-Jammu highway.
An official said that the avalanche has blocked both the tubes of the tunnel from Qazigund side, forcing the authorities to suspend the traffic movement on the highway.
He said that a rescue operation has been launched in the area. There was no immediate report of any loss of life or injuries. (with GNS inputs)
