Srinagar : Hundreds of passengers are stranded in Jammu bus stand from past four days after the slippery conditions of the roads triggered by the fresh snowfall compelled authorities to the close the vehicular movement on the only road connecting Valley with rest of the States.

 

Scores of passengers are stranded at Panthal area of Reasi district in Jammu who according to them were facing hardships due to lack of arrangements from last couple of days.

 

The passengers while talking to KNO said that they are facing immense hardships in absence of proper arrangements for them. “We came from different states and were heading towards Srinagar but due to the closure of highway, we are stuck here and no arrangement is being made for the stranded passengers here, thus resulting in immense hardships to them,” they said.

 

Moreover, the passengers who are stuck at Panthal and others places on Srinagar-Jammu highway here have appealed the State administration to look into their sufferings and ensure the road is thrown open at an earliest.

 

“There are aged persons, women among the passengers who are stuck on highway, therefore we urge the authorities to either airlift us or to speed up road clearance work so that the stranded passengers will reach their destinations,” they said.

 

Officials told KNO that the highway was closed following the slippery conditions of the roads triggered by the fresh snowfall. The road clearance work is on but no improvement in weather conditions is halting the process,” they said.

 

Additional Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ramban, Basharat Hussain told KNO that some 160 passengers are stuck on Srinagar-Jammu highway at different places in the district, saying that adequate arrangements are being made for them. He said that the stranded passengers include a group of students who were on tour. “All the arrangements were put in place for them,” he added.(KNO)
