Hurriyat (G) protests against ‘ill-treatment’ to inmates
Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (G) leaders and activists on Friday held protests after congregational prayers in Hyderpora against the prolonged detention and the ‘ill-treatment meted out to Hurriyat leaders’ especially deteriorating health condition of Hurriyat leader Peer Saifullah in Tihar jail.
The amalgam spokesman in a statement issued here said that a protest was organized at Hyderpora Srinagar against what he termed as ‘inhuman attitude meted out towards the political prisoners in and outside state especially in Tihar Jail’.
Hurriyat leaders condemning the prolong detention of political prisoners and called it as ‘an extreme vandalism and coercion’, which they said ‘depicts a martial law like situation”, said that “suppressing even the pro-freedom voice and curbing their peaceful activities is no bravery but shameful and cunning corwardness, which government itself be responsible for the consequences.”
Demanding the immediate release of all political prisoners including leaders lodged in and outside state particularly in Tihar Jail including Shabir Ahmad Shah, Altaf Ahmad Shah, Ayaz Akbar, Peer Saifullah and others.
“By pushing people to wall India will achieve nothing, they should face the political leaders and workers on political turf,” they said.
Terming down Delhi’s rhetoric about democracy and freedom of speech, leaders said that their tall claims about freedom of expression and democracy stand exposed as they didn’t dare to face pro-freedom leadership and resorted to vandalism, arresting leadership, pro-long there detention and denying political space to leadership.
Hurriyat leaders appealed Amnesty International, Asia Watch, and other international organization for human rights to break silence and take cognizance of the plight of suppressed and oppressed people in state of Jammu and Kashmir and urged to fulfill their obligations in accordance with human rights specified for the political prisoners.
Meanwhile, Hurriyat (G) strongly condemned the raids on the houses of Muslim League leader Rafiq Ahmad Ganie and political activist Sabzar Ahmad of Arinhal Bijbihara and said that “Jammu and Kashmir has been turned into a police state, where political leaders and activists are regularly harassed by the men in uniform to satisfy their masters in Delhi.”
Hurriyat said that “such corrosive measures in past has yielded nothing and in future they will met the same.”
