Old City residents protest handing of youth to NIA

Srinagar: The residents of Old city area of Srinagar on Thursday staged a protest against the arrest of youth and ‘handing them over to National Investigation Agency (NIA)’.
According to reports the locals including men, women and children demanding immediate release of the detained youth assembled near MirwaizManzil in RajouriKadal.
The locals said that nine persons were arrested in Kashmir by police’s Special Operation Group (SOG) in November last year for allegedly having links with militants and were handed over to National Investigation Agency (NIA).
They said that two persons identified as Tahir Ahmad Khan son of Ali Mohammad of ChandrigamTral and HarisMushtaq Khan son of Mushtaq Ahmad of WathoraBudgam were arrested by the SOG Srinagar near TRC on November 23, 2018.
On their disclosure, police claimed that seven more persons were arrested by respective police stations and handed over to SOG in the subsequent days.
They include Abdul Ahad Mir son of Ghulam Mohammad of Khurhama, Kupwara, AsifSuhailNadaf son of Latief Ahmad of Rainwari, Irfan Ahmad Seeru son of Mohammad Shaban of NawaKadal Srinagar, Wahid Abbas Bhat son of Mohammad Abbas of RajouriKadal, Srinagar, AshiqHussain son of Bashir Ahmad of Jamia Masjid Nowhatta, Haris Rashid Langoo son of Abdul Rashid of Malik Sahib Gojwara Srinagar and ArifMajeed Khan son of Abdul Majeed of Hawal Srinagar.
Reports said that the police on January 15 handed over all the nine persons to NIA sleuth. The nine persons were handed to NIA sleuths on the orders of City Munsif Srinagar following an application by the NIA. However, there was no official confirmation in this regard.
Meanwhile, the locals today said that their beloved have been handed over to NIA, saying that they should be released at an earliest. (KNO)
