NIA writes to JK police, seeks report on PDP leader
Ready for any probe, says AdvAijaz Mir
Shopian: Months after an SPO decamped with the service rifles from the official residence of former PDP legislator, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has written to Jammu and Kashmir Police seeking a report on PDP leader Advocate Aijaz Ahmed Mir over his ‘soft corner approach’ towards the separatists.
In a letter written to Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), a copy of which lies with ‘Kashmir Vision’, the NIA has mentioned that it has come into their notice that Mir’s vehicle was used during the attack carried out on AmarnathYatra Pilgrims.
“Therefore you are requested to provide criminal record/antecedents if any and integrity report in respect of aforesaid Ex-MLA namely Aijaz Ahmad Mir to Rakesh Sharma SP/CIO of the instant case,” the letter reads.
Notably, on 28 September last year, a Special Police Officer (SPO) Aadil Bashir posted with Mir decamped with weapons including personal pistol of Ex-MLA from his official residence at Jawahar Nagar in Srinagar when the then legislator was not in Kashmir.
Aadil who hailed from legislator’s native village Zainapora later joined Hizb and soon his pictures with top slain militant commander Zeenat-ul-Islam went viral.
Soon after the incident a case under FIR no 57/2018 was registered by J&K Police and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the weapon theft was constituted and case was later handed over to NIA.
However, during investigation of the case, Aijaz Mir alleged police harassment.
AdvAijaz Mir while talking to ‘Kashmir Vision’ said that he is not afraid of any probe. “They can probe any case or particularly this case whenever they want, I am always ready to cooperate,” he said.
