Srinagar: The Bandipora-Gurez road in north Kashmir will be re-opened for traffic on Saturday. The road has remained closed for more than a week, officials said.
The 84-km long Bandipora-Gurez road was opened after snow was cleared from the road and movement of traffic was allowed today morning, said an official.
“We are making efforts to open the road for traffic to connect Dawar with the rest of the world even though the weather conditions are extremely unfavourable and hostile for such a task,” said the Officer commanding Lt Col APS Khaira of 56 RCC.
He said that the road will be opened for traffic in three days time provided all goes well as the snow clearance team have crossed the Razdhan pass located at 11672 fts .
The snow accumulation at the Razdhan pass is over seven feet and the sub zero temperature make the surface icy.
“Once the road is through the safety measure has to be ensured by the district Administration by allowing 4/4 vehicles with non-skid chains”
Officer Commanded said and added that regular assessment of the road has to be done to ensure the safety of the commuters.
