Clashes erupt, vehicle torched
Pulwama: A militant was killed in a brief shoot out in Chowdribagh area of Litter Tehsil in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday morning.
A police official said that a militant was killed in retaliation firing after militants opened fire on a patrolling party belonging to the 55 RR.
Soon after the initial exchange of fire, cordon and search operation was launched in Chowdribagh and its adjacent areas to nab other militants who managed to flee.
“Incriminating materials including arms and ammunitions were recovered from the slain militant, whose identification was not ascertained,” he said.
Meanwhile, as soon as the news about the killing of a militant spread in the area, youth took to streets and started pelting stones on government forces which was retaliated by smoking tear smoke and sound shells, triggering clashes which continued for many hours in the area.
Angry protesters also set ablaze a load carrier near the site of a shootout, sources said.
Meanwhile, a complete shutdown was observed in the area and in wake of gun fight internet services were also snapped in Pulwama district.
