Srinagar: Public Health Engineering (PHE) casual laborers on Monday took to streets in Srinagar to protest the delay of release of their salaries during the last two years.
Scores of PHE casual laborers assembled in Srinagar’s Press Enclave under the banner of ‘Kashmir PHE Casual Laborers Union’ to protest against the government for failing to release their wages since long.
The protesting PHE casual laborers chanted slogans against the government and demanded release of their wages at an earliest.
The protesting casual labourers said that the authorities have failed to release their wages on time, thus leaving the casual labourers and their families to suffer.
“We were forced yet again to hit the streets to press for our wages. Despite working tirelessly in the harsh winters, the authorities have failed to come up to the expectations of the PHE casual labourers,” they said.
They urged the authorities to look into the matter at an earliest and release their pending wages. “We appeal the higher ups to release our wages soon,” they demanded.
The protesting casual laborers later dispersed peacefully.
