Principal GMC writes to Advisor, seeks immediate action

Srinagar: After SMC’s Deputy Mayor Sheikh Imran allegedly misbehaved with the doctors at Chest Diseases Hospital, Dalgate on Tuesday, Imran invited widespread ridicule from all quarters, with Principal GMC Wednesday asking Advisor Vijay Kumar for necessary action.

Principal Government Medical College (GMC), Dr Samia Rashid told Kashmir Vision that she has taken up the issue with the Advisor Vijay Kumar and also wrote to the Commissioner in this regard.

“I have already taken up with the issue with the Advisor, I have written a letter to him, including the Commissioner, have asked them to take necessary action, “she said.

Dr Samia said that what he (Deputy Mayor) did on Tuesday was not his domain, “his job is to take care of drains and roads, he, in no way, can intervene into the matters of the hospital,” she said.

The doctors’ body, Doctors’ Association of Kashmir (DAK) has also ridiculed the Deputy Mayor for his ‘unruly’ behaviour, while asking him to “stay in his limits.”

While talking to Kashmir Vision, President DAK Dr Suhail Naik said that this was unfortunate that he indulged into the matters which he is knows nothing about, “he should stay in his limits, rather than poking his nose into such matters,” he said.

“Our hospitals are working round the clock through every situation and disaster for which we have been appreciated and recognised at the national level and have received awards in health delivery system in tandem”, Dr Naik said.

“It is not SMC that is paying salary to doctors. We are being paid through the taxes of people and we are working here for the people. This illegitimate and illiterate behaviour of any official cannot be accepted under any circumstances,” Dr Owais H Dar General secretary DAK in a statement.

Meanwhile, Society of Dental Surgeons J&K (SDSJK), while condemning the behaviour of the Deputy Mayor said that doctors across the state and in particular valley are doing a tremendous job against all odds that has been acknowledged by state and even at the national level.

“The inhuman and unacceptable behaviour shown by the Deputy Mayor against the doctors who are already overburdened and taxed clearly depicts that the state machinery doesn’t run as per the rules and anybody can ride it for its vested interests,” it said.

As a mark of protest, the doctors at Chest Diseases Hospital, Wednesday observed a pen-down strike from 2 in the noon and demanded immediate action against the erring deputy mayor, failing which they will be forced to announce ‘tough measures’.

However, Principal Government Medical College (GMC), Dr Samia Rashid told this reporter that she has already talked to the doctors, “I have told them not to do so, I have talked to them in this regard,” she said.

Pertinently, the SMC’s rowdy Deputy Mayor was in news soon after he joined in, for the money that he was yet to return to various financial institutions.

Notably, the Deputy Mayor later in the day addressed a press conference and cut a sorry figure before the media.

He said that he apologizes for his behaviour and asked the medicos to continue with their work.
