Kashmiri scholar from Rafiabad dies in mishap near Deoband seminary

Srinagar: A Kashmiri scholar died in a road accident at Deoband near Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday late afternoon.

A resident of Ladoora, Rafiabad in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, the deceased Mohammad Rafeeq Mir (30) son of Shabir Ahmed Mir was pursuing ‘Mufti Course’ at Darul Uloom Deoband seminary.

The accident took place at Jamia Tidya area of Thrihra, Qasba Deoband when a tractor trolley hit Rafeeq while he was on his way to meet his friend in the area, Station House Officer (SHO) of the concerned police station in UP Sajad Ali told a local news gathering agency.

“We have handed over the body to his cousin, who is also studying in the same Darul Uloom, and administrators of the seminary. The body would be flown to Srinagar today for performing the last rites,” the SHO said. (GNS)
