Change in examination centres by IGNOU trigger protest in Jammu

Jammu: The aspirants appearing in separate examinations by Indiria Gandhi National Open University, Jammu staged a protest against the authorities for changing their centres.
The students after assembling outside IGNOU Complex demanding establishment of centres at their respective hometowns, raised slogans against the authorities to press for their demands.
They said that there are four degree colleges in the Udhamour district but the students appearing the examinations have been told to appear in the centres established at Mahore in Reasi, Leh, Jammu and other remote areas of different districts.
The aggrieved students further added that not even a single holiday has been given them for preparation, adding that they approached the concerned authorities with a request of setting up examination centres in their respective hometowns but only verbal assurance was given, which also later withdrawn.
“A written order was passed directing students to appear in the examinations being conducted in the centres allotted to them, which have been established by the IGNOU,” they alleged.
The students however, have appealed to the Governor Satya Pal Malik headed state administration to intervene and issue directions to the authorities so that they do not suffer and do not have to travel to remote parts for appearing in the examinations when degree colleges and schools are already available in all the districts.
They also slammed the dictatorship of the authorities.
Meanwhile as an order issued by the Directorate Of Samagra Shiksha, J&K (Elementary Wing), as per communication dated 14-12-2018 received from Regional Director, IGNOU Regional centre, Jammu, all the Chief Education Officers/ Principals of DIET(s)/Stake Holders are hereby requested to inform the in-service B Ed teacher trainees that they should appear in the examination centre(s) originally allotted to them and not in the revised examination centres for which written permissions have been obtained from the Regional centre, Jammu.
Further, the candidates who do not adhere to these guidelines shall be treated under the category of unfair means by IGNOU.
Moreover, SMS alert to this effect has already been sent by IGNOU RC, Jammu to all B.Ed students enrolled under IGNOU-SSA B.Ed project and the contents of said SMS are reproduced as, “all those students who have obtained written permission from RC, Jammu regarding change of Examination Centre are advised to appear in examinations at the centre originally allotted to them. All written permissions stand cancelled.”
It is to place on record here that IGNOU RC, Jammu has cited the Administrative reasons and report of chaotic situation at certain examination centres for the withdrawal/cancellation of written permission in this regard.
