Sopore: At least five officials of forest department sustained injuries after the smugglers attacked them in Cherhar forest area in north Kashmir’s Sopore area of Baramulla district.
According to reports, five forest officials (forest guards) were attacked when a team of forest department visited the Cherhaar forest in Kandi forest division Sopore following a special tip-off about the presence of smugglers in compartment number 27 of block Botingoo 2nd on Thursday.
“As the team reached the spot, smugglers attacked them with sharp edged weapons and injured five forest guards identified as Farooz Ahmad, Irshad Ahmad, Shahzad Ahmad, Abdul Kareem, and Tahir Ahmad,” officials said.
Forest Kandi Range Sopore Officer; Abdul Majeed Mir confirmed the incident and said, “Our men (forest guards) were attacked while performing their duties, which resulted in injuries of five officials.”
The injured officials were shifted to Sub District Hospital Sopore for treatment, he said, adding that “an FIR under number 97/2018 at Police Station Bomai Sopore has been registered against these smugglers.”
