Thousands attend funeral prayers

Sopore: Thousands of people on Thursday participated in the funeral prayers of two slain Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants- Owais Ahmad Bhat and Tahir Ramzan Dar who were killed in an overnight gunfight that broke out in Brath Kalan area of north Kashmir’s Sopore area.
Reports said that thousands of people from Zaingeer belt of Sopore including Brath Kalan, Saidpora, Dangarpora and other adjoining areas assembled at the native and neighbouring villages of slain militants Owais and Tahir at Brath Kalan and Saidpora Sopore after their bodies were brought to their respective homes on Thursday afternoon.
Amid pro-freedom and anti-government slogans, a large number of people carried the bodies of the two militants in a procession to the martyrs graveyards at their respective villages for burial.
In Brath village, thousands of people shouting pro-freedom slogans carried slain Owais’s body in a procession to the graveyard for burial while in Saidpora, Tahir’s body was also marched from his home towards a local graveyard in Saidpora where the funeral prayers were held.
Slain Owais an ITI student left home one and a half month back following the killing of a local militant.
Similarly, Tahir also left home a month back on 10 November 2018 and joined the militant ranks.
Slain Owais has left behind three brothers and two sisters, while slain Tahir has left behind two brothers and three sisters.
Meanwhile, a complete shutdown was observed across Sopore town and its adjacent areas soon after the news regarding the killing of the local militants spread in the area on early Thursday morning.
