Smugglers attack forest officials, 5 forest guards injured

Sopore: At least 5 officials of Forest department sustained injuries when they were attacked by smugglers in Cherhar forest area in north Kashmir’s Sopore.

According to officials they were attacked while on a visit to the Cherhaar forest in kandi forest division Sopore.

They had  recieved a  tip off about the smugglers being present there in compartment number 27 of block botingoo 2nd on Thursday.

“As the team reached the spot, smugglers attacked them with sharp edged weapons and injured five forest guards Identified as Farooz Ahmad, Irshad Ahmad, Shahzad Ahmad, Abdul Kareem, and Tahir Ahmad,” sources said.

“Our men (forest guards) were attacked while performing their duties which resulted in injuries of five officials. The injured officials were moved to Sub District Hospital Sopore for treatment,” Forest Kandi Range Sopore Officer Abdul Majeed Mir said.

Added that we have lodged an F.I.R no. 97/2018 at police station Bomai sopore against these smugglers.
