Says media only highlighting negative things

Srinagar: Governor Satya Pal Malik on Wednesday said that national media largely has been demonizing the state of Jammu and Kashmir, while it has been gravely ignoring the positive things happening in the state.
While addressing a press conference in Jammu, Malik said that he has seen so many positive things in J&K, which he has not seen anywhere in the country, “but such things don’t get a mention in the national media,” he said.
He said that if the positive things would get a mention, the image of the state would be totally different outside, “which is, unfortunately, not happening,” he said.
“If anything goes wrong in Kashmir, the media presents those incidents in a very different frame, which ultimately ends with demonizing Kashmir,” he said
“Recently, the state is done with the Panchayat polls, amid peace and tranquility, the national media is not interested in that, but if anything bad happens, they are on it and project the state in a totally different light,” Malik said.
He said that during the conduct of polls, “if even a bird was hurt, it would have caught their attention, but the peaceful conduct of polls is nowhere to be seen,” he added.
The governor was addressing a presser to present the major initiatives taken by his administration over the period of time, which he said, “should get a mention in the media.”
“I have been in Bihar and other parts of the country and honestly speaking, I have found J&K far better than any other place,” he said, while asking the media person present during the presser to ‘help’ him in portraying the invisible image of the state, which is ‘way better’.
“We need your help in setting the facts right and portray truth regarding J&K to the outside world,” he said.
