Says won’t allow any politics on Panchayats

Srinagar: Chairman of All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference (AJKPC), Shafiq Mir on Tuesday said that Panchayat polls in the State were conducted peacefully and culminated successfully, terming it as ‘victory of democracy’.
In a statement issue here, Mir said that said that they will not allow any sort of politics on Panchayats, saying that it is a community institution not political.
Expressing his gratitude to the people of the state who stood against all odds and took part in these elections, Mir said that the politicians of the state should now understand that people do not believe in their dirty politics any more.
He said apart from separatists, leading mainstream political parties like National Conference (NC) headed by ex –CM Farooq Abdullah and PDP headed by ex-CM Mehbooba Mufti had boycotted these elections.
Reacting on the conclusion of nine-phased Panchayat elections in the state, Mir said that “it was victory of democracy in the state and a lesson for those who believe in boycott politics that people think otherwise.”
“Despite this boycott call, 70 to 80% of voting was witnessed in these elections which shows that the people want development and democracy not hypocrisy,” he said.
Mir warned the politicians not to politicize these elections by any mean, saying that Panchayats are not political but a community institution and they have nothing to do with any kind of politics in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
“It is matter of great regret that the political parties which had boycotted these elections are now organising photo sessions with elected Sarpanchs and Panchs. It is shame for them,” he added.
He said all the political parties were against these elections and it was only Panchayat conference which was demanding the holding of these polls. “How these parties can organise photo sessions now,” he questioned.
