Thousands participate in slain militants funerals
Srinagar: Braving cold conditions thousands of people on Monday participated in the last rites of the slain teenage Hajin militants who were killed in an 18-hour-long gunfight in Mujgund area on Srinagar outskirts on Sunday.
The two slain militants were identified as Mudasir Ahmad Parray and Saqib Ahmad along with a Pakistani militant. The duo had joined the militant ranks few months back.
Reports said that the funeral prayers for the slain militants were held in Hajin localities of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district in which thousands of people participated and raised pro freedom and pro militant slogans.
A large number of people including women and children rallied with the bodies of the slain militants through the streets of Hajin town since early morning amid sloganeering against India and in favor of freedom.
The funeral prayer for the slain youth was held at Eidgah in Hajin.
Meanwhile, clashes erupted between youth and forces in Hajin area after the slain militants were laid to rest.
Reports said that youth took to the streets and pelted stones on forces and police who in retaliation fired tear gas canisters to disperse them.
Meanwhile, a top police officer said that barring minor stone pelting incident, situation remained peaceful and under control.
