30 people injured during clashes

Srinagar: At least a dozen injured were shifted to SMHS Srinagar after they were hit by pellets during clashes that broke out in Central Kashmir’s Chattergam area following an encounter between militants and forces.
Hospital authorities here said that as many as 11 pellet injured were referred to SMHS on Wednesday after they had sustained grave pellet injuries during clashed in Budgam’s Chattergam.
Reports said that more than 30 civilians suffered injuries during clashes with forces in the area out of which patients with grave injuries were referred to Srinagar.
“All those who were referred have sustained pellet injuries mostly in their eyes, they have been given initial treatment and are now being monitored,” a doctor said.
The doctor further said that many of the injured may have to undergo surgeries in the coming days.
Earlier, a 20-month-old baby Hibba was also hit by the pellets in Kapran area of south Kashmir’s Shopian area following the clashes after an encounter in which three militants were killed. Hibba is facing a lifelong blindness, with doctors saying that they are doing their best to save her eye.
The hospital sources said that in three incidents so far: Bijbehara, Kulgam and on Wednesday at Chattergam, more than 30 pellet injuries have been reported out of which most of the injured have sustained injuries in their eyes. Most of them had sustained injuries post clashes that broke out in the areas.
“Some might face life-long blindness, some can be treated, as they are coming for the follow-ups and might need surgeries,” a doctor said, adding that “all in all the numbers are only swelling up with each incident.”
