Two women including 10 others injured in clashes
Srinagar: As many as 10 civilians including two women sustained injuries during clashes with forces on Tuesday in the parts of Shopian and Pulwama. Six among ten injured were brought in to SHMS hospital Srinagar, where they are currently undergoing treatment and are said to be stable.
Hospital sources said that a 22-years-old woman was brought in who had sustained bullet injury in her right leg and another teenage girl was also brought in for treatment after a bullet had hit her in the abdomen.
Further, Bilal Ahmad (18) S/O Abdul Rashid Thoker R/O Nadigam, Shopian was also brought in after he was hit by pellets in his left eye. Parvaiz Ahmad Wani S/O Gulam Muhamad R/O Shopian another injured had suffered bullet injuries in his left leg, was earlier shifted to Multispecialty hospital Shireen Bagh. Later, on Tuesday evening, Pervaiz was further referred to SKIMS.
All the injured were initially taken to district hospital Shopian where from the patients with bullet and pellet injuries were further referred to Srinagar for specialized treatment.
Medical Superintendent, SMHS Dr Saleem Tak while confirming the number of injured said that four people were brought in, “two had sustained bullet injuries, all are stable as of now,” he said.
Later in the evening, two more injured who had sustained pellet injuries during clashes were brought in to SMHS after they sustained grave injuries in their eyes.
Sources said that one Irfan in his twenties was brought in after he had sustained pellet injuries in his left eye. Another, Sajad in his late twenties had also sustained pellet injuries in his left eye.
A doctor attending the pellet injured said that those who were brought in on Tuesday were all stable, “some will be discharged in a day or two, while as, some will have to undergo surgeries,” a doctor said.
Meanwhile, witnesses said that clashes broke out soon after the news about the killing of four militants in a gunfight at Nadigam area of Shopian spread on Tuesday morning.
One commando of 23 PARA was also killed and five other soldiers were injured during the gunfight.
Following the killing of four militants, the people mostly youth took to streets near the gunfight site at Nadigam and its adjoining areas.
Witnesses said that police and paramilitary forces deployed in the area used tear smoke shells, pellets and some live ammunition to disperse the protesters resulting in injuries to eight people.
All the injured were taken to district hospital Shopian where from the critically wounded were referred to Srinagar hospital for specialized treatment.
Similar reports of clashes were received from Muran Chowk and Rajpora areas of neighboring Pulwama district. Two persons were reported injured in the clashes.
Earlier, the encounter broke out after the joint team of army’s 23 Para, 34 RR, SOG and CRPF laid a cordon-and-search operation at Nadigam following inputs about the presence of some militants.
Soon after the gunfight, authorities snapped internet services in Pulwama and Shopian districts as part of established norms by the authorities in the state.
