Hurriyat leader, father of four shot dead in Anantnag
Anantnag: Unidentified gunmen on Tuesday morning shot dead Hurriyat (G) district President for South Kashmir in Achabal area of Anantnag district.
Locals said that unidentified gunmen fired upon Hafiz Ullah Mir, father of four at his home at Akingam area of Achabal which left him critically injured.
The injured pro-freedom leader was immediately shifted to district hospital Anantnag where doctors declared him as brought dead.
Pertinently, he had spent more than 14 years in jail since early 1980s for his association with the separatist movement and was currently associated with Hurriyat led by Syed Ali Geelani.
Mir was recently released from jail after he was arrested by police in November 2016 during a pro-freedom rally in Hakoora village.
He was accused of being instrumental in organizing pro-freedom rallies and instigating violence in southern Kashmir. Mir was booked in dozens of cases for which he was arrested several times.
Mir is survived by four children, the eldest child is in 7th standard and youngest has been admitted in a school few months back, a family source said.
His killing has evoked widespread condemnation and people from all sections of the society have expressed anger over what they termed as ‘gruesome murder’ of Hafeezulah in broad-day light.
