Anantnag: At a time when the authorities are claiming to have taken steps to ensure safe drinking water to the people, a village in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district is a glaring example of official apathy as the successive regimes so far have utterly failed to ensure drinking water supply to the villagers.
Residents of Kathoo village of Bijbehara area in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district have raised voice against the authorities for ‘failing to install water pipelines to supply water to the village’.
The inhabitants told ‘Kashmir Vision’ that the village is without drinking water facility as no water pipeline has been installed here so far, thus leaving the entire population to consume unsafe water.
According to locals, the PHE department started a water supply scheme in K Kalan, a decade before to provide drinking water to many villages including Kathoo.
However, the residents said that nothing has been done in this regard so far.
“Though the successive regimes several times assured people of providing basic facilities like Bijli, Pani and Sadak in lieu of votes but all tall claims proved hoax on the ground,” they said.
The locals further said that they approached the concerned authorities several times, requesting them to provide drinking water to the village but to no avail.
One of the residents said that almost 150 households are without drinking water facility due to which locals are facing immense hardships.
Locals here have urged the concerned authorities to look into the matter so that they could heave a sigh of relief.
A PHE official told this newspaper that K Kalan plant has failed to provide drinking water supply to the villagers.
He said that the department is not in slumber but working on to find out other means to ensure drinking water facility to the village. He also assured that Kathoo village will get drinking water within a period of one year.
