2 arrested in Surankote

Srinagar: Police on Wednesday claimed to have apprehended two militants affiliated with Hizb Ul Mujahideen in Awantipora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
A police official said that they had received inputs about the movement of militants in DugriporaPanzgam area.
“Working on the lead a joint check point was established at Panzgam railway underpass by 55 RR, Awantipora Police and 185 CRPF late Tuesday evening,” he said.
“At around 9.30 pm two persons were spotted going towards Panzgam who were asked to stop but they ran towards village Dugripora. The duo was chased and apprehended,” the official added.
He said that upon their search one UBGL thrower, two hand grenades and some ammunition of AK series was recovered from their possession.
The detained have been identified as Jan Mohammad Sheikh son of Abdul Aziz resident of KaweniDugripora and Nasir ul Islam son of Shabir Ahmed Shah, a resident of Panzgam.
The duo are affiliated with HM outfit and case under relevant sections of Arms Act has been registered against them in Police Station Awantipora, added the official.
Meanwhile, police and army on Wednesday arrested two “militants” from Pulwama in Sarknkote area in Poonch district of Jammu region.
“Based on a specific information one Tavera (JK01R-5936) which was coming from Mendhar and going to Sarknkote was intercepted by SOG Poonch headed by DSP and 25RR of army near JaranwaliGaliSurankote,” a police officer.
The driver of the car and a person travelling in it were detained, he said, adding, after sustained interrogation they said turned out to be militants identified as Shabir Ahmed son of Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din of Kakapora Pulwama and Mohammad Aqib, also resident of Kakapora Pulwama.
“During the search, two AK 56 rifle and two magazines were recovered from both,” he said.
Meanwhile, sources said that they have dropped five militants in JaranwaliGali and they are carrying black bags.
Following the disclosure, they said, a massive search operation has been launched in JaranwaliGali, Kali, Gursai and Pathanateer village to the nab the suspected militants.
The police officer said that it could be a part of militant plan to disturb upcoming elections to Panchayat elections.(with inputs from GNS)
