Acute water scarcity hits Sopore village, residents protest

Sopore: The residents of Ningli area of Sopore in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Thursday morning staged a protest against the Public health Engineering (PHE) department for failing to provide adequate water supply to them from the past many days.
Reports said that scores of people including men and women blocked the Sopore-Tarzoo road to mark their protest against the PHE department.
Raising slogans against PHE department for ignoring their plights from past one week, the residents here demanded immediate redressal of their grievances.
The protesting residents said that they will go for massive protest if their demands will not be addressed at an earliest.
They appealed the higher authorities of PHE department Sopore to look into the matter and fulfill their demands.
Meanwhile, President Civil Society of Sopore Haji Muhammad Akbar Ganaie said that an acute water scarcity and power crises has become a daily routine in Sopore town.
He blamed government of playing with the sentiments of Sopore people and alienating it from the last several decades.
“We approached to the higher ups several times regarding the basic facilities to people in Sopore but nothing has been done in this regard,” he added.
“We appealed Governor to personally intervene into the hardships being faced by the people,” Ganaie said.
